2018 Google Cloud Women's Soccer Academic All-District Teams
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sophomore midfielder JoAnnie Ramos was named a 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team selection on Thursday afternoon. Ramos was selected to the NCAA Division I – District 6 First Team. The NCAA Division I – District 6 team is composed of women's soccer players representing NCAA Division I institutions in the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Thursday marks the first time that Ramos has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in her Southern Miss career. The Katy, Texas native currently holds an unblemished 4.0 GPA in her major or nursing, one of the most prestigious academic programs on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. Ramos is the only underclassman to earn a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer NCAA Division I – District 6 First Team.
In addition to being a 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Women's Soccer NCAA Division I – District 6 First Team selection, Ramos was also selected to the C-USA Women's Soccer All-Academic First Team for the 2018 season.
The sophomore midfielder was an integral part of a Southern Miss team that finished the 2018 season with a program-record 13 wins and 11 shutouts.
Ramos also helped Southern Miss to its first appearance in the C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2007. During their tournament run, the Golden Eagles earned the first C-USA tournament wins in the history of the Southern Miss women's soccer program, defeating No. 3 seed UAB 1-0 in the quarterfinals and No. 2 seed FAU 1-0 in the semifinals. After knocking off FAU in the semifinals, the Golden Eagles earned a berth in the C-USA Title Match for the first time in program history.
For the season, Ramos logged a total of 1,681 minutes played. The sophomore started all 20 of the Golden Eagles' matches in 2018 and recorded three goals, three assists, and nine points. Ramos scored a crucial goal in Southern Miss' 4-3 win against Grambling State earlier in the season that helped decide the outcome of the match.
Ramos was named to the University of Southern Mississippi's President's List (reserved for students with a 4.0 GPA) in the Fall of 2017 and the Spring of 2018.
She earned a Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for the 2017-18 academic year. Medals are awarded to C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better. She was also named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2017-18 academic year. C-USA student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
