Golden Eagles Welcome Marshall to Town

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â The Southern Miss volleyball team (12-12, 4-5 C-USA) will conclude its homestand against Marshall (10-13, 3-6 C-USA) on Friday night at 6 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum.Â
The last time out
The Golden Eagles knocked off Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night in four sets (25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18). Southern Miss jumped to an early two-set lead, but the Lions responded by snagging the third set. However, the Golden Eagles, backed by Kylie Grandy's 22 kills, dashed any hope Southeastern Louisiana had of winning the fourth and final set.Â
Sarah Bell contributed with 30 helpers and Lainey Aenchbacher added a career-high 17 assists. Madison Lawler, who ranks No. 10 in C-USA in average digs per set, added a team-high 14 digs to the box score. Catherine Repsher added three blocks and Dani Ajayi added two more. Ajayi and Repsher each added four and seven kills, respectively.Â
Scouting Marshall
The Herd enter the contest losers of three of their last five matches. They last faced UTSA, ultimately falling to the Roadrunners in four sets. Redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell leads the way with 361 kills, 18 service aces and 39 blocks. Defensively, Amber Weber has put up 459 digs. Gabrielle Coulter, a one-time C-USA Freshman of the Week recipient, has posted a team-high 777 assists.Â
The Herd, in C-USA play, have wins over Louisiana Tech, UTEP and Middle Tennessee. Overall, Marshall holds notable wins over Georgia Tech and Ohio.
What's at stake
The all-time series is currently tied at 11. The Golden Eagles have won the last six meetings, including last seasons in four sets. Southern Miss currently sits in seventh place in the playoff picture and is a game ahead of Charlotte, UAB and Marshall.Â
