OXFORD, Miss. - Katia de la Garza was the lone Golden Eagle to remain standing heading into Sunday's ITA Regional at Ole Miss. De la Garza, slotted in the second singles draw, walked through her opening matches to set up a semi-final bout against Antonia Blattner from Northwestern State.
The two had each gone through the opening portion of the tournament with out dropping a single set. Blattner and de la Garza battled in the first set, but Blattner ended up winning via a 6-3 score. De la Garza, to force a third set, was going to have to win the second set if she had any chance of playing in Monday's Championship Round. Blattner ended up winning 7-5 in the second set, but de la Garza did make a push before falling short.
The loss concluded Southern Miss' action at the ITA Regionals. The Golden Eagles will be back in action at Florida State on Nov. 9-11.
Thoughts from Steve Schram
"It was a good weekend and everyone played very tough opponents and got very good experience. We are excited to get back to the practice courts and improve in the areas we need to get better."
