
De la Garza Stays Alive at ITA Regionals

OXFORD, Miss. -Â After day two of the ITA Regionals at Ole Miss, just Katia de la Garza stays in the hunt for a trip to the ITA Nationals. The Golden Eagles saw success early on, but de la Garza was the lone Golden Eagle to remain unbeaten.Â
In doubles, Rikeetha Pereira and Tanit Lopez lost in the first round of the doubles consolation bracket early in the morning. The duo of Monique Burton and de la Garza were able to win their first match against Nicholls State, but fell to a Samford duo to conclude their run. Tjasa Jerse and Arina Amaning won their first two matches in the second doubles draw, but fell in the semifinal round to end their run.Â
At singles, de la Garza is still alive in the main draw of the second doubles bracket. The sophomore won via a 6-4, 6-3 score to advance to the semifinals. She will play tomorrow for a chance to play in the championship round on Monday. In the consolation draw, Lopez advanced from her first match, but fell in the quarterfinals. Pereira fell in her first match of the consolation draw in the main singles bracket. Amaning won her first two matches in the same draw, but fell in the quarterfinals via a 6-0, 6-3 score.Â
De la Garza will be back in action on Sunday for a chance to advance to the championship round.Â
