HATTIESBURG, Miss. -Â Following an impressive outing at the Samford Hidden Duals two weeks ago, the Southern Miss women's tennis team is set to compete at the ITA Regionals in Oxford, Miss.Â
"The team is eager to compete once again and they have been working very hard on and off the court," said coach Steve Schram.
The four-day tournament is set to kickoff on Friday at 8 a.m. The precursor to the ITA National Tournament will feature four draws -- Main Draw Doubles, B Draw Doubles, Main Draw Singles and Main Draw Singles Consolation. The tournament will continue on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The Monday portion of the tournament will feature Championship Rounds for those that advance.Â
"This tournament will feature some of the top players not only in our region, but in the entire country," Schram said. "We look forward to the challenge and feel confident going into the tournament."
Of the current squad, senior Rikeetha Pereira has seen the most success at the ITA Regionals. Last season, Pereira fell in the Consolation Championship in three sets to Kennan Johnson of LSU. However, Schram, as a coach, has seen plenty of success at the Division II level of ITA play. Schram traveled to California last season to coach in the ITA Finals for Barry University. Â
The draws will be revealed Thursday evening after a coaches meeting at Ole Miss. Follow @SouthernMissWTN on Twitter for updates of the tournament. Following the ITA Regionals, the team will have one more fall tournament at Florida State in early November.Â
