HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Becky McMullan was named the Conference USA Offensive player of the week after scoring three goals in two games in the opening weekend of her senior season.
McMullan scored the first goal of the season for the Golden Eagles just four minutes after the initial whistle against Nicholls State on Friday, Aug. 18. Her early goal gave the Golden Eagles the lead at half and continued the early offensive pressure on the Colonels with another goal just two minutes into the second half.
McMullan's 20-yard shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box was placed perfectly out of reach of the keeper to land in the top right corner of the net. The goal in the 46th minute gave the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. Of McMullan's four shots, three forced a save and two landed in the back of the net.
The Golden Eagles went on to win their opening match of the season 3-1 with McMullan leading the team with four shots.
McMullan continued her scoring ways in the second game of the weekend when she found the net in the second half of Sunday's game against Stephen F. Austin, tying the game at 2 a piece. Her third goal of the season came with 10 minutes left when her shot bounced off the left post.
McMullan finished the opening weekend with seven shots, the second most on the team. The three goals last weekend tied her three goals from all of last season. She finished her junior season with three goals and two assists.
