
Women's Tennis Goes Undefeated Against C-USA Opponents

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. â€" All six singles matches were needed to decide Sunday's win against Middle Tennessee State for the Southern Miss women's tennis team.
The 4-3 win against the Blue Raiders came with four singles win to give the Golden Eagles their second straight win against Conference USA opponents. Tjasa Jerse clinched the match on court 5 after being forced to three sets. Despite winning the first set 6-3, Jerse dropped the second 6-4 and played to a tiebreaker to clinch the match with a 7-6(7-3) win. This only the third time Jerse has been forced to three sets this season.
The Golden Eagles tied the match at 1-1 on court 2 with Pereira's straight set win after dropping the doubles point. Senior, Carolin Drescher would give the Golden Eagles the first lead of the day with her win on court 1 that was also forced to three sets.
Drescher fell behind after a 6-3 loss in set one but dominated the second with a 6-0 performance. Drescher would follow in like fashion with a 6-2 final set win. Elena Roca would pull the Golden Eagles within on point of winning the match on court with her 6-4, 7-5 win.
Alex Kitchen and Tzu-Hui Chen would both fall to their Blue Raider opponents after forcing three sets in both matches.
The Golden Eagles improve to 13-7 overall and 2-0 against C-USA opponents after this weekend. Southern Miss returns home, Saturday April 14, to honor Drescher and Kitchen for Senior Day when they host William Carey at 2:30 p.m.
