Women's Tennis Earn Fourth Road Win Of The Season

JACKSON, Miss. â€" Alex Kitchen dropped only one set in her singles win on Tuesday afternoon when the Southern Miss women's tennis team routed Jackson State 7-0.
The Golden Eagles traveled 90 miles north to win their third match in a row. Tuesday's win was the second time this season the Golden Eagles swept the Tigers, 7-0 after hosting JSU in its season opener.
Despite dropping a match on court 2 in doubles, the Golden Eagles claimed the doubles point after an easy 6-0 sweep by seniors, Alex Kitchen and Carolin Drescher, and a 7-6 tie-breaker win from Tzu-Hui Chen and Tjase Jerse on 3.
Tjasa Jerse continues to lead the way in singles wins with her 7-5, 6-0 finish against Ariel Dickson on court 5. Jerse's 15-2 record bests her teammate's records by four wins.
Rikeetha Pereira faced Lucia Solis for the second time this season this time on court 2 but produced the same outcome with her 6-4, 6-2 win. Pereira's doubles partner, Elena Roca, also picked up her third straight win but was forced to the third set after dropping the first match 6-2. Roca defeated Daria Butorina 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 for her eleventh win of the season.
The Golden Eagles travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., Saturday to face C-USA opponent UAB in their first conference match of the season. The Blazers hold a 2-8 advantage against the Golden Eagles in the last 10 matches.
