The Golden Eagles (19-5) entertain South Alabama, Tuesday, and New Orleans, Wednesday, with both game set to start at 6 p.m.
Winners of 10 of its last 11 games, Southern Miss continues to move up the national polls. Southern Miss meets South Alabama (15-9) for the first time since splitting a pair of games in the Tallahassee Regional last June. This game also mark the first meeting between the two clubs in Hattiesburg, since the two schools played a 17-inning affair at The Pete on Apr. 29, 2015. The Golden Eagles won 7-6 in what is the longest game in school history in terms of innings.
The Privateers and Golden Eagles conclude their season series with New Orleans (14-11) the next night. Taylor Braley shut out the Privateers for 7 1/3 innings and drove in three runs in the 6-0 victory in the Crescent City back on March 8.
Braley, a junior right-hander, who is 2-0 with a 4.33 earned run average, is slated to start against the Jaguars against freshman lefty Andy Arguelles (2-0, 4.97). Pitching matchups for the Wednesday game have not been announced at this time.
Southern Miss takes the highest run total of Conference USA at 199 runs this season into the midweek pair of games. The club averages 8.3 runs per game this season which ranks 11th best nationally. In addition, the team ranks tied for first in the league with home runs with 34 after belting eight in a three-game series last weekend against Marshall.
Braley and freshman Matt Wallner lead the way in that category with seven home runs each as nine different players currently hit over the .300 mark this season, including Braley who leads the team with a .349 mark.
Following the pair of midweek games, the Golden Eagles return to C-USA play this weekend at WKU.
