Midweek Contest Awaits Baseball Golden Eagles at Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. â€" The season started on a good note for Southern Miss baseball and they look to continue its strong Wednesday night when they travel to Alabama for a midweek contest.
The game, which was pushed back a day to due to expected bad weather, starts at 6 p.m., and can be heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network, as well online at the SEC Network+ through the WATCHESPN service.
The Golden Eagles outscored Northeastern 31-12 over the weekend to open the year with a three-game sweep. The Alabama contest marks the only contest of the first eight games that the Golden Eagles will play away from home.
The squad trails the all-time series 72-31 with Alabama, but have won four-straight games and nine of the last 14 over the Crimson Tide.
Hattiesburg product, junior Taylor Braley, who had a .400 batting average over the first weekend with a pair of home runs and seven RBI, makes his first career start on the mound against the Crimson Tide. Braley has made four career relief appearances, including a 1/3 of an inning last year at home in a 9-2 victory over Alabama.
Senior Dylan Burdeaux also enjoyed a solid first weekend at the plate as he tallied a .357 batting average with two homers and seven RBI, collected a pair of hits in each contest. Sophomore Hunter Slater added a .333 mark with one long ball and five RBI.
Following the Alabama game, the Golden Eagles return home to face Evansville in a three-game series at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field this weekend. Game times are 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., Sunday.
