BEAUMONT, Texas â€" The Southern Miss men's tennis team (5-2) ended its two-match road trip with a 5-0 win against University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley, Saturday at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The Golden Eagles dropped the first doubles match on court three but came away with the point after wins on courts one and two. Jorman Reyes and Daniel Merker defeated Elliot Johnstone and Clement Sarradin in a close 7-5 match to clinch the point.
Reyes who shows no signs of slowing down this season, defeated Yehonatan Kaufman in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Saturday's win is Reyes seventh of the season.
Merker, who has competed at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spot, defeated Koby Jansen 6-3, 6-4 on court two. Rakshit Rishi clinched the final point with his 6-1, 7-5 win against Andres Hernandez.
The Golden Eagles return home for six straight home matches and face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. The women's tennis team will also host the Islanders the same day.
