Women's Tennis Earns Third Sweep of the Season

HATTIESBURG, Miss. â€" Another home match and another victory for the Southern Miss women's tennis team after sweeping Louisiana-Lafayette 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Golden Eagles Tennis Facility.
The Golden Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season remaining unbeaten at home in three matches this spring.
In doubles play to open the match, Southern Miss claimed the point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles squads. The duo of Rikeetha Pereira and Tzu-Hui Chen dropped Alexandra Way and Abby Johnson at No. 2 in an easy 6-2 victory.
No. 1 partners Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen bested Kelly Drew and Lucile Delabarre with a 6-4 win.
Kitchen earned her fourth singles win at No. 2 as she cruised past her opponent 6-3, 6-0. Kitchen's teammate Tjasa Jerse also secured her fourth win of the season when she dropped Carla Ortega in a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5.
Claudia Castella picked up her second win of the season and of the week in her match against India Shiaelis. Castella got the better of Shiaelis in a 6-1, 6-2 match.
The Golden Eagles travel to Northwestern State tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Demons also defeated Lafayette 4-0 on Thursday at home. Thursday's win is the first of the season for the Demons as they improve to 1-3.
