HATTIESBURG, Miss -- The Golden Eagles will hit their second tournament of the season, The Lady Pirate Invitational, tomorrow and Tuesday. The team set a high standard after their last tournament and was rewarded for its hard work with a No. 68 national ranking. The team started last year at 187 and finished at 134, to give some perspective.
"It was a good week of preparation for this event and the crew is ready. This course will reward smart play off the tee," said head coach Erika Brennan. "If we can be in the right spots off the box it will set us up to play our best. There is definitely a premium on ball striking. The atmosphere amongst the group is positive and they are committed to the grind tomorrow. It's going to be a fun challenge - we are ready to get that first ball in the air and will need to get off to a good start. They continue to make me proud."
Brennan's desire to play tougher competition in unfamiliar tournaments shows at the Lady Pirate Invitational. Four of Southern Miss' 17 opponents are ranked in Golfweek's Top 100. Live scoring can be followed at Golfstat.com.
