HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss women's soccer team's game Sunday against Jackson State was postponed due to inclement weather in the area at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles (4-1-0) scored twice in the first 12 minutes before the game was suspended due to lightning. The offense was rewarded in the third minute when Becky McMullan stole the ball from a Jaguars defender and drove inside the box toward the net and was able to score in between Kylie Christian's legs.
It wasn't long after that in which the Golden Eagles got its second goal. Karen Torres scored a header off the 12th minute corner kick by Katie Richmond for her first goal of the season.
The game was delayed for three hours before it was officially called due to weather.
This contest has not been officially rescheduled at this time. Southern Miss will return to action at home against Southern, Thursday, Sept. 15, at 4 p.m. for its final non-conference game.
