HATTIESBURG, Miss. The Southern Miss women's golf team released their 2016-2017 schedule Wednesday. The ladies begin their fall play in Mobile, Alabama at the USA Intercollegiate Tournament September 10 through the 12. The team will compete in four more tournaments before the season concludes on November 1.
The Golden Eagles return to the Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, South Carolina to start the spring season and will play in six tournaments, including the Conference USA Championship. The Golden Eagles return to only two tournaments from the previous year and look to be challenged by the new competition.
"This is a new and exciting schedule for us this year and it's packed with stronger competition," said head coach Erika Brennan. "Last year, we laid the foundation for the future of the program and this year we are eager to build on that and have opportunities to compete in stronger fields."
This year's roster features six returning players and two newcomers, via transfer, who are all capable of being in the line up. This depth and competition will make vying for a starting five spot very fierce.
"This year we have eight girls that are undoubtedly ready for more success," said senior Emily Ross. "Whether it be on the course or off the course, we all want what's best for each other."
The team will travel well over 10,000 miles on their way to Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Kentucky for events.
