
Men's Golf Completes Second Day at C-USA Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Freshman Willie Hammond (Southlake, Texas) shot a team-low 74 in the second round to lead Southern Miss in the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship being played at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark., Monday.
UAB continues to lead the event after two days with three-over 579, including a 294 on a windy day at the par 72, 6,969-yard course.
Hammond's round gives him a 153 over the first 36 holes to place him in a 38th-place tie in the field as he has posted an even score on par 3 holes over the first two days of the event.
Senior Hayes Weathersby (Poplarville, Miss.), behind 26 par holes over the first two days, added an 78 in the second round to collect a 154 and a 41st-place tie, while redshirt junior Ryan Argotsinger (Kansas City, Mo.) posted an 80 to compile a 159 total score and is in a 57th-place tie.
Redshirt freshman Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.) fired an 82 to post a 160 stroke total for a 60th-place tie and freshman Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) notched a 85 for a 166 total to hold 65th place.
The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 314 in the second round to hold a 626 over the first 36 holes.
Following the 38th-ranked Blazers in the team scoring includes Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech (585), North Texas (591), UTSA and UTEP (594), Old Dominion (596), Charlotte and Marshall (598), WKU (599), Rice (612), Florida Atlantic (623) and Southern Miss.
Stroke play competition concludes Tuesday at 8 a.m. CT with split tees. Charlotte, Marshall and WKU start on hole 10 at 8 a.m. CT, while play on hole one begins concurrently with Old Dominion and UTEP. North Texas and UTSA play as a twosome from the first hole at 8:40 a.m. CT, while Florida Atlantic, Rice and Southern Miss will go off from the back nine at 8:50 a.m. CT. The top three teams, UAB, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech, tee off on hole one at 9:20 a.m. CT.
The top four teams following tomorrow's stroke play advance to the match play round of the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship, slated for Wednesday.
