
Men's Golf Concludes Play in C-USA Championships

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team concluded play in the 2016 Conference USA Men's Golf Championships at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark. The Golden Eagles placed 12th in the tournament, posting a team score of 924.
UAB claimed the 2016 C-USA Championship with a team score of 865, followed by Louisiana Tech (873) and North Texas (876). UTSA (882) and Middle Tennessee (884) rounded out the top 5, while UTEP (887), Old Dominion (890), Charlotte (894), Marshall (894), and WKU (900) closed out the top 10. Rice (912) finished just ahead of Southern Miss, while Florida Atlantic (929) concluded the scoring.
Individually, UAB's Taylor Eyster and Victor Lange of Louisiana Tech tied for first place with seven under-par scores of 209. North Texas' Thomas Rrosenmueller was the only other player under par, carding a three under-par 213 in the tournament.
For the Golden Eagles, Hayes Weathersby led the way. After opening rounds of 76 and 78, he carded a 75 for an overall score of 229.
Ryan Argotsinger (79-80-71) and Willie Hammond (79-74-77) each finished one stroke back with a 230 overall. Argotsinger posted the low-round of the day with a one-under par round of 71.
Nathan Corchis (78-82-79) shaved three strokes off of his second round score to finish the tournament with a final scorecard of 239, while Derick Kelting (81-85-75) posted his lowest round of the week to close out the championship with a 241.
The top four teams, UAB, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, UTSA, advance to the Conference USA Men's Golf match play, which began this afternoon due to possible inclement weather in the area overnight and tomorrow morning. Match play will conclude on Wednesday.
