
No. 43 South Alabama Downs Southern Miss 5-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team had its seven-match winning streak snapped, dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 43 South Alabama on Saturday at the USM Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles fell to 15-3 overall while South Alabama improved to 18-4.
The Jaguars took the doubles point with a pair of wins in the competition. Tjasa Jerse and Elena Roca lost to Alina Zolotereva and Monica Mitta 6-0 before Claudia Castella and Rikeetha Pereira lost to Alexandria Stiteler and Cinta Maria Papke 6-1. Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen battled to a 3-3 tie before the match was halted against Laura Valkova and Michaela Meszarosova.
The Golden Eagles won a pair of matches in the singles competition as Drescher highlighted the action with a three-set win against No. 65 Alexandria Stiteler. Drescher lost the first set 7-5, but roared back to take the final two sets 6-2, 6-2. Jerse knocked off Papke at the No. 4 spot with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
South Alabama clinched the match at No. 3.
The Golden Eagles return to action April 15, traveling to ULM.
