Southern Miss Ends First Day at Rebel Intercollegiate Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Juniors Devon Spriddle (Lethbridge, Alberta) and Emily Ross (Diamondhead, Miss.) each shot a 77 to lead Southern Miss after the opening round of the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate, Friday, being played at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Both Spriddle and Ross hold a 31st-place tie after the first round at the par 72, 6,323-yard course. The first-round start was delayed an hour due to what was expected to be bad weather Thursday night in the Oxford area.
Southern Miss freshman Henriette Syr (Oslo, Norway) posted a 79 to sit in a 53rd-place tie and freshman Valentina Haupt shot an 81 to hold a 69th-place tie. Kelly Erasmus added an 84 to hold a 79th-place tie.
The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 314 to hold 14th place in the 15-team field.
Troy leads the team standings with a nine-over 297 with ETSU ranking second at 300. Harvard ranks third at 301, two strokes ahead of Murray State and host Ole Miss (303), followed by Memphis and Fresno State (304), Yale and James Madison (307), Tulsa (309), Western Carolina and WKU (310), Samford (313), Southern Miss and Redlands CC (330).
Five different players shot a one-under 71 to hold the individual lead.
Round two of the tournament starts at 8:51 a.m.., Saturday with the groups starting at both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
