Two Golden Eagles Named to All-Conference USA Third Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Two Southern Miss soccer players, Katie Richmond and Becky McMullan, were each named to the 2016 All-Conference USA Third team released on Tuesday afternoon.
The honors were voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.
McMullan started and played in all 17 games for the Golden Eagles. McMullan's four goals and four assists landed her second in points on the team with 12. Of her 26 shots, 12 of them were on goal. McMullan's goal against Louisiana-Lafayette was her one game-winning goal of the season.
"Becky has been very a consistent player for us and has continued to show growth and maturity," Coach Mohammed El-Zare said. "I'm very happy she was selected and her improvement every year makes her very deserving of this accomplishment."
Richmond followed closely behind McMullan in points with 11. Richmond played in 15 games and started 14 this season. Two of Richmond's four goals were game-winners with the first coming in the first game of the season against Arkansas State.
"It means a lot to me know that my junior captain is receiving this award," El-Zare said. "Katie allows the team to play in so many different line ups and her leadership has grown throughout the season."
El-Zare wasn't surprised when he heard about his two players being selected because he's seen the determination and the motivation each player has to get better every day. Richmond and McMullan's work ethic was shown in their stats during the season and El-Zare is happy other coaches saw the skill his two Golden Eagles possessed.
Richmond and McMullan's selections were the first players since Casey Adkins was selected for the same honor in C-USA in 2014.
