BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Southern Miss women's tennis closed out the Samford Round Robin tournament on Sunday with a strong doubles win from Rikeetha Pereira and Gabrielle Robinson.
The Golden Eagles finished the three-day tournament without its seniors Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen who are competing in the Riviera/ITA All-American in Palisades, Calif.
Pereira and Robinson competed in flight 3 this weekend and ended the tournament with a 6-3 win over Reghan Lynch and Hana Sisirak from UAB. With their second win in the flight, Pereira and Robinson are the winners of the doubles flight.
Pereira also competed well in singles play forcing a third set after her 6-3 win in the second but fell to Ellie Gerlack of Samford in three. Gerlack won the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Tzu-Hui Chen also competed against tournament host player Grace Jennings. Jennings won the first set 6-2 but Chen came back to win the second 6-3. Jennings would defeat Chen in the final set 6-3.
The tennis team returns to action in the ITA-Regionals that start Oct. 14, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
