
Golden Eagle Flyby -- B. Taylor, S. Jones, B. Hedin

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- In the third installment of the Golden Eagle Flyby, we sit down with three more junior soccer players -- Brittany Taylor, Somer Jones and Breann Hedin.
The first Golden Eagle we meet with today is Brittany Taylor. Taylor is from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. During her sophomore season, Brittany started nine matches as well as managed 873:11 minutes protecting the goal. Taylor is looking to lead a young talented group in front of the net.
Next we sit down with this week is Somer Jones. Jones is from Mandeville, La., where she was a four- year letterwinner at Fontainebleau High School. During Jones's sophomore campaign she made nine starts and played in 19 games. Jones was able to record 14 shots on season with five shots on goal as well as one recorded goal. She looks to be a dominant threat in the midfield during her junior campaign.
The last Eagle that we meet with this week is Breann Hedin. Hedin is a native of Long Beach, Miss. In Hedin's first two years on the squad she has played 35 of 39 games. She also started 13 of those games her sophomore year. Last year, Hedin tied for the team lead with eight points. She is looking to increase this number this year.
Brittany Taylor, Goalkeeper
Q: What drives you as an athlete?
BT: I would have to say the competition drives me as an athlete. My competitiveness also drives me to become a better athlete.
Q: What type of player do you consider yourself to be?
BT: I consider myself to be the type of player that is hard working and not afraid to be a leader when my team needs it.
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
BT: When I was growing up, I was lucky to be able to play all sports but I have liked soccer the most.
Q: Where did you get the passion for your sport?
BT: Growing up, I had a very competitive family. I would have to say that is where I get my passion.
Q: What was the deciding factor that made you choose to come to Southern Miss?
BT: The people here at Southern Miss were the deciding factor in my decision to come to Southern Miss. It feels like a family away from home.
Q: What would you consider your trademark, something that only you do, athletically or outside of athletics?
BT: When I play, I tend to stick my tongue out.
Q: If you had to choose, would you rather write in pen or pencil, why?
BT: If I had to choose, it would have to be in pen. Pen is more professional and neater than pencil.
Somer Jones, Midfielder
Q: What brought you to Southern Miss?
SJ: Soccer was one of the main factors that brought me to Southern Miss. The other was that it was close to home.
Q: How has Southern Miss impacted your life since you started here?
SJ: Southern Miss has taught me that nothing comes easy. It has also taught me to value my relationships.
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
SJ: My older sister played soccer and I wanted to play the sport.
Q: What is the biggest difference between high school and collegiate athletics?
SJ: The biggest difference between high school and collegiate athletics is the speed of play is faster as well as the game is more aggressive.
Q: Outside of electronics, what is your most important possession?
SJ: My most important possession has to be a passage that my dad gave me.
Q: Who was your favorite teacher in grade school?
SJ: My favorite teacher in grade school was my English teacher Ms. Hildebrand.
Q: What was the most adventurous thing you have done in the past year?
SJ: This past year I went hiking in Norway.
Breann Hedin, Defender
Q: What was your first thought as you walked onto campus for the first time?
BH: My first thought as I walked onto campus was, where are my classes?
Q: What is your favorite home cooked meal?
BH: My favorite home cooked meal is lasagna.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of athletics? Movie? Book? TV Show? Artist?
BH: Outside of athletics, I like to watch Netflix, sleep, go back to Long Beach and go out to eat.
Q: What was the deciding factor that made you choose to come to Southern Miss?
BH: The deciding factor that made me choose to come to Southern Miss was my roommate Devin McGee.
Q: Top 3 songs you play in your music?
BH: Last Resort by Papa Roach, Paralyzer by Finger Eleven and Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse.
Q: Who would be on your Mt. Rushmore, why?
BH: My grandmother would be on my Mt. Rushmore. She deserves to be recognized for what she does for me.
Q: What was the most adventurous thing you have done in the past year?
BH: The most adventurous thing that I have done in the past year is kayak Lake Superior.
