Golden Eagle Flyby -- Katie Richmond, Karen Torres

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- For the fourth Golden Eagle Flyby with the Golden Eagle soccer team, we sit down with two more soccer players -- Katie Richmond and Karen Torres.
Katie Richmond is a redshirt sophomore from Pensacola, Fla. Prior to transferring to Southern Miss, she spent a year at Florida where she played in one game. In high school, Richmond was a standout player at Pensacola High School where she was a four-year starter. She is looking to make an impact for the Golden Eagles this season.
Karen Torres played in 17 games during her freshman year. She scored four goals on the season, tying for the team lead in points scored. This season, Torres is looking to up the number of goals scored. She is from Houston, Texas, where she played at Alief Taylor High School.
Katie Richmond, Defender / Midfielder
Q: What type of player do you consider yourself to be?
KR: I consider myself to be a technical and fast player.
Q: How has Southern Miss impacted your life since you started here?
KR: Southern Miss has taught me to be a disciplined and time oriented person and athlete.
Q: During your career as an athlete, do you consider one person as your mentor, maybe a coach?
KR: During my career, I consider the coach that got me into playing soccer as my mentor. His name is Mike Lagow.
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
KR: One of my dad's patients was the coach.
Q: What was the deciding factor that made you choose to come to Southern Miss?
KR: The biggest deciding factors that made me choose to come to Southern Miss was that it was close to home, as well as I loved the coach and the team.
Q: What was the most adventurous thing you have done in the past year?
KR: I would have to say the most adventurous thing that I have done in the past year is that I jumped off a waterfall in the Dominican Republic.
Q: If you could choose a super power, what would it be? Why?
KR: My super power would be the ability to fly. I would want to be able to fly because it is cheaper than airfare.
Karen Torres, Midfielder / Forward
Q: How did you manage to get into your sport?
KT: I started playing soccer when I was younger for fun. As I got older, it turned more competitive.
Q: How has Southern Miss impacted your life since you started here?
KT: Southern Miss has made me a more responsible individual.
Q: What is your favorite home cooked meal?
KT: My favorite home cooked meal is orange rice with chicken.
Q: Describe your ideal day from start to finish?
KT: My ideal day would start with me waking up and eating breakfast. After breakfast, I would get a workout in. A post workout nap would follow. When I wake up from the nap, I would eat lunch and watch television. Once I was done watching TV, I would hang out with my family and eat dinner.
Q: Top three songs in your music?
KT: My top three songs in my music are: You Know You Like It by DJ Snake and AlunaGeorge, Lose Yourself by Eminem and Planes by Jeremih.
Q: What do you prefer the temperature in your room to be?
KT: I prefer the temperature in my room to be between 68 degrees and 70 degrees.
