HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss baseball team finishes its regular season with a three-game Conference USA series at Middle Tennessee, beginning Thursday night at Reese Smith, Jr., Field with a 6 p.m., start.
The Golden Eagles (32-16-1 overall, 16-10 C-USA) then play a 6 p.m., contest on Friday and ends the regular-season slate with a 12 noon contest on Saturday. The finale will be televised on the American Sports Network (ASN).
Southern Miss enters the weekend having won at Tulane 8-4 on Tuesday night to extend its winning streak to 10 games. The streak is the longest for the program since a 10-gamer in 2013 and also is tied for the sixth-longest in school history.
Coach Scott Berry's squad holds fourth place in the league standings, while the Blue Raiders are 30-22 overall record and a 19-8 league mark, which is good for second in league play.
Leading the way offensively for the Golden Eagles has been junior Tim Lynch, who paces the team in average (.333), home runs (9) and RBI (31). Fellow junior, Chase Scott, is hitting .304 powered by a current 18-game hitting streak which is the longest for the club since Isaac Rodriguez collected a 21-game skein in 2013.
Freshman Taylor Braley holds a .309 batting average, while Matt Durst is at a .306 mark.
The Golden Eagles continue to lead C-USA in both earned run average with a 3.05, while their fielding percentage is at .976. Southern Miss also ranks second in double plays turned with 55.
Following the MT series, the Golden Eagles return home to play host to the 2015 C-USA Baseball Championship, presented by Petro Nissan, at Pete Taylor Park from May 20-24.
