HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss baseball team concludes a four-game homestand Tuesday when they entertain non-conference foe ULM in a 6 p.m., contest at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
It will be Twitter Tuesday for the game and fans are asked to follow @USMGoldenEagles for an exclusive ticket offer for this game. In addition, it will be Trivia Tuesday at The Pete, and those in attendance will be able to test their knowledge of Golden Eagle baseball throughout the game to win great prizes.
The Golden Eagles (21-14-1) look to get back to their winning ways after dropping the final game of the Florida Atlantic series on Sunday, 10-5, and losing the home series two games to one.
The will be the first meeting between Southern Miss and the Warhawks (20-19) this season after wintry conditions did not allow the clubs to play in February at Warhawk Field in Monroe.
Southern Miss won both games over ULM last season, outscoring the Warhawks 32-4, including an 18-2 victory in Hattiesburg last March. In a series that started in 1949, the Golden Eagles lead in the 64 previous meetings by holding a 46-18 advantage.
Heading into the ULM contest, six Golden Eagles currently have at least a five-game hitting streak. Senior catcher Austin Roussel leads the way with a nine-game hitting streak, followed by freshman Taylor Braley, senior Matt Durst, junior Tim Lynch, junior Chase Scott and senior Michael Sterling who are all at five games each.
Roussel is hitting .379 (11-for-29) during his streak with three doubles, a home run and six RBI. His homer came on Sunday and was one of three Southern Miss round-trippers in that game. The three blasts tied for the most in a contest this season, as the Golden Eagles also did it in the opening game of a doubleheader at Louisiana Tech on March 20.
Southern Miss continues to lead the league in pitching with a 2.82 earned run average and also rank first in C-USA in fielding percentage at .974.
After the ULM contest, the Golden Eagles return to the road for a C-USA series at UTSA this weekend. Games are set for 6 p.m., Friday, as well as 2 p.m., Saturday, and 12 noon, Sunday, at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio.
