
Women's Tennis Team Falls to Boston University 5-2

MIAMI, Fla. - The Southern Miss women's tennis fell 5-2 to Boston University on Monday, falling to 7-5 on the season.
The Terriers captured the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Elena Roca and Kathrin Waidner posted a 6-4 win at No. 3 against Kim McCallum and Iryna Kostirko.
Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen battled Johnna Hyoty and Barbara Rodriguez at No. 1 before falling in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (4). Lisa Schneider and Claudia Castella lost to Lauren Davis and Madison Craft 6-1 on No. 2.
In singles action, Southern Miss captured a pair of points with wins at No. 4 and No. 6. Roca downed McCallum, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 6. Kitchen dropped her first set 6-3 to Iris Lin, but bounced back to take the final two sets, 6-2, 6-1.
It took three sets for No. 122 Hyoty to defeat Drescher at the top spot. Drescher won the first set 6-2, but fell in the final two 6-4, 6-4. Schneider lost a hard-fought battle at No. 2 against Lauren Davis, 7-5, 7-6 (1).
Karina Gurgenyan fell to Rodriguez 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and Castella lost to Kostirko 6-3, 6-0.
Southern Miss is back in action Mar. 10 against FIU at 2 p.m. CT.
