Baseball Hosts Pack the Pete in Pink This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- After playing the last seven games on the road, the Southern Miss baseball team returns home starting Thursday to face Conference USA foe UAB for a three-game series in the school's annual Pack The Pete in Pink Weekend.
The series starts one day earlier than normal due to the Easter Weekend as the festivities will kick off Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday's game is slated for 6 p.m., with the finale set for Saturday at 2 p.m. (see below for promotions for the three games)
The Golden Eagles (15-10-1, 4-4 C-USA) return home for their second home league series after taking two of three games from FIU to open conference play, March 13-15.
Freshman Taylor Braley continues to lead Southern Miss in hitting with a .417 batting average over 18 games. He currently has hit safely in his last six contests and is batting .519 (14-for-27) over this stretch with four doubles and six RBI.
Senior Matt Durst increased his hitting streak to eight games by getting at least one hit in all three of the Rice games over the weekend, going 4-for-12 in the series with two RBI. He finished the month of March with a .358 (25x70) average in 17 games with five doubles, two triples, two home runs and 15 RBI. He is hitting .351 this season with two homers and a team-best 19 RBI.
As for pitching, Southern Miss currently holds a team 2.41 earned run average which ranks first in C-USA and No. 12 in the latest national statistics. The last Golden Eagle pitching staff looks to finish the year with its first sub-3.00 ERA since 1972 (2.63).
Southern Miss hosts a UAB team that has posted a 17-9 record overall and a 5-4 mark in C-USA action, prior to a Tuesday night meeting with Alabama.
After the UAB series, the Golden Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to Pearl to face Ole Miss at Trustmark Park. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

2 p.m. -- Baseball vs. UAB at The Pete
- Diamond Dig sponsored by Lights Jewelers and Gemologists following the game. 20 participants will be selected from the raffle entries throughout the weekend. One lucky winner will find a diamond as part of the dig. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $10. Must be present to win.
