
Lady Eagle Hoops Host Michigan in WNIT Quarterfinals

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's basketball team advanced to the WNIT quarterfinals for the first time and will host Michigan on Sunday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m.

Southern Miss Preview
The Lady Eagles (25-10) are coming off another come-from-behind victory against Eastern Michigan 76-65 in the third round of the WNIT. Tamara Jones recorded a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds while Alex Coyne chipped in 11 points and Brittanny Dinkins added 10 off the bench. Coyne and Jerontay Clemons handed out six assists apiece.
Jones leads the team in scoring with 16.5 points while adding 7.1 rebounds per game. She ranks sixth in the Conference USA in scoring and 11th in field goal percentage. She ranks 11th in rebounding. Jerontay Clemons is next at 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Brooke Rhodes contributes 7.7 points and is third in the league in three-point field goal percentage and is fifth in 3-point field goals made in C-USA. Kierra Jordan contributes 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles are averaging 68.6 points on 45.1 percent shooting from the field and 38.1 rebounds per game. Southern Miss ranks second in field percentage and second in three-point field goal percentage. The Lady Eagles have connected on 176-of-505 from behind the arc.
Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis is in her 11th season at the helm of the Lady Eagle program and her 24th season as a head coach. She recorded her 10th, 20-win season overall and her fourth at Southern Miss.
Scouting Michigan
Michigan enters today's contest with a record of 19-14 following a 65-55 win against Missouri in the third round of the WNIT. Shannon Smith led a group of five Wolverines in double-figures with 13 points while Cyesha Goree added a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds, Nicole Elmblad had 11 points and Siera Thompson and Katelynn Flaherty each chipped in 10 points.
Flaherty leads a quartet of Wolverines in scoring at 14.4 points while Goree adds 13.8 points. Smith and Thompson chip in 13.6 and 11.2 points, respectively. Goree is the top rebounder at 10.5 boards per game.
Michigan is averaging 70.1 points per game while allowing 65.4 points. The Wolverines are connecting on 43.3 percent from the floor, 36.9 percent from three, while allowing 43.7 percent from the field and 33.0 percent from beyond the arc. Michigan is pulling down 37.6 rebounds per game and connecting on 74.9 percent from the free throw line.
