Hoover, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's golf team won the Samford Intercollegiate after the final round was called after two hours of play. The tournament was played at the par-72, 7,001-yard Hoover Country Club.
The Golden Eagles finished one-under par, 16 strokes in front of Lipscomb.
It is Southern Miss' first tournament title since the 2013 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
Hayes Weathersby earned his first tournament title after defeating teammate Casey Fernandez in a one-hole playoff. After Fernandez hit his first shot out of bounds and his second into a water hazard, he conceded the hole, handing Weathersby the victory.
It is the second individual title for the Golden Eagles this year. Fernandez won the Sam Hall Intercollegiate to open the season.
"We were playing great today before the rain came," said Southern Miss head coach Jerry Weeks. "We were really on this week. I'm so proud of Hayes for breaking through and getting his first Division I victory."
Southern Miss returns to the links March 30-31, when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., for the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic.
