HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team takes to the road for the first time this season when they open an eight-game road swing this weekend at the COX Diamond Invitational in Pensacola, Fla.
The Golden Eagles will play North Florida Friday at 7 p.m., while taking on both Saint Louis, at 11 a.m., and Nicholls, at 7 p.m., Saturday, in their three tournament games. The UNF contest will be televised on Cox Sports Television.
The Golden Eagles and Ospreys will meet for the first time in their baseball history. Southern Miss also renews its rivalry with former C-USA member Saint Louis, holding a 23-7 overall advantage in the series. It will be the first time the two schools have played when it was not either a C-USA regular season or league tournament contest.
Southern Miss and Nicholls play for the first time since the two schools opened the 2012 campaign together and the Golden Eagles hold a 26-17 margin in that series.
After winning the first three contests to start the season, Southern Miss looks to rebound this weekend after dropping a mid-week tilt with New Orleans on Wednesday night, 7-6.
The offense for the Golden Eagles continued to shine as they posted their fourth double-digit hit contest to open the season and the squad is hitting .329 with Dylan Burdeaux leading the way with a .500 average. Ryan Ellis is next at .455, followed by Connor Barron (.444), Matt Durst (.412) and Tim Lynch (.357).
Following the tournament in Pensacola, the Golden Eagles return to the road Tuesday when they travel to Monroe, La., to face ULM. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
