HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's soccer team plays their final home game of the 2015 season this Friday, as they take on Conference USA leaders North Texas at 3:00 p.m. The match will be the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness. The first 50 fans will receive a pink Southern Miss t-shirt.
The Golden Eagles (4-10-3, 2-6-0 C-USA) are coming off a hard fought weekend of two double overtime games.
Kierstin Bradley scored two goals on Friday, the second coming with just 3:42 left on the clock, to lift the Golden Eagles over UTSA, 2-1. On Sunday, Mary Kate Smith and Bradley scored a goal apiece in the second half to send the game against UTEP into extra time, but the Golden Eagles ultimately were defeated in the second overtime period, 3-2.
Bradley's recent offensive explosion has put her in the top ten of Conference USA standings heading into this weekend. She is tied for second in goals in league games only with four, as well as tied for third in game-winning goals with two. Bradley also ranks third in goals per game (.50), tied for sixth in points (8), and tied for eighth in points per game (1.00).
Goalkeeper Brittany Taylor is also making waves in the C-USA standings. Taylor ranks third among goalkeepers this season for saves with 90. She is also a part of the C-USA top ten in multiple other categories, including sixth in saves per game (5.29), seventh in save percentage (.789), tied for ninth in shutouts (3), and tenth in goals against average (1.40).
Southern Miss has faced North Texas twice, tying the Mean Green 1-1 in the fall of 2013 in Denton. Last season, the Golden Eagles once again traveled to Denton, dropping the game to North Texas, 4-0.
The Golden Eagles play their last game of the season against UAB next Friday, Oct. 30. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. in Birmingham.
