HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A cold, damp afternoon could not stop the Southern Miss baseball team from officially starting its preparations for the 2015 season as spring practice began Friday at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
"The enthusiasm probably warms everything up honestly," said Southern Miss coach Scott Berry. "The guys are excited. The coaching staff is excited. The weather isn't really what we would like, but there's days you have to play in it, so you better be able to practice in it as well."
The Golden Eagles, fresh off a 35-25 campaign a season ago, open their season three weeks from today against Murray State. Game time is set for 4 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 13, at Pete Taylor Park.
The squad will hold intra-squad scrimmages on both Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) and practices are open to the public.
Southern Miss season tickets are also on sale and can be purchased by going online at SouthernMissTickets.com, or by calling the Southern Miss Ticket Office at 1-800-844-TICK (8425) as well as visiting the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office, weekdays, during normal business hours.
