Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener to No. 53 Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southern Miss women's tennis dropped its season opener to No. 53 Tulane, 6-1, at the City Park Pepsi Center.
The Green Wave earned the doubles' point after taking two wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Klara Vyskocilova and Jacqui Katz (TLN) defeated Carolin Drescher and Alex Kitchen, 6-1, while Ipek Birol and Sophie Blom (TLN) defeated Mahitha Dadireddy and Karina Gurgenyan, 6-3. Kathrin Waidner and Lisa Noderer did not finish the match at No. 3.
Tulane swept the singles matches No. 1 through No. 5. Southern Miss recorded its only victory at No. 6 with Waidner defeating Margauz Hyman in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3.
Dadireddy lost to Vyskocilova, 6-1, 6-2 while Kitchen dropped a match to Meredith Maltby (TLN), 6-2, 6-2. Gurgenyan fell to Blom, 6-3, 6-0 while Drescher lost to Birol, 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out the singles play, Noderer lost to Katz, 7-6 (0), 6-2.
Southern Miss returns to action Jan. 26, playing a pair of non-conference matches against Jacksonville State at 11 a.m. and concluding with a 2 p.m. match against Jackson State.
