HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss baseball junior first baseman Blake Brown garnered the Conference USA Hitter of the Week honor as voted on and released Monday morning by the league office in Irving, Texas.
Brown, from Semmes, Ala., collected a .438 (7-for-16) batting average for the week to go along with a .571 on-base percentage as the Golden Eagles accumulated a 4-1 record.
He hit safely in the final four games of the week with multiple RBI in each outing after a 0-for-1 performance in the first game against Mississippi Valley State with a pair of walks.
He saved his best for the weekend tournament at Auburn, as he collected the team's first two home runs of the season, including a three-run go-ahead shot early in the contest versus Purdue and a solo blast in the win against Auburn.
Brown added a double, drove in 11 runs and scored nine times over the five games. This season Brown holds a .289 batting average with two home runs and 13 RBI.
The Golden Eagle first baseman is the first weekly recipient of the award this season. Houston senior right-handed Jared Ray won Pitcher of the Week honors by the conference.
