HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
The Southern Miss baseball team moved up in two national polls and stayed at its current position in three others after posting a 4-0 record last week which included a mid-week victory over South Alabama and a three-game sweep of UAB.
The Golden Eagles, which are off to their best 47-game start since the 2003 team went 36-11 as well, remained at No. 12 in Baseball America, No. 13 in PerfectGame.org and No. 15 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll.
The squad moved up two spots to No. 18 in the College Baseball poll and two places in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll up to No. 17.
This is the seventh consecutive week Southern Miss has been ranked in all five major polls and is the first time in 2011 that they have been in the Top 20 by each of the rankings.
Southern Miss returns to action this weekend when they travel to play Houston in a three-game C-USA series at Cougar Field. The series begins Friday night with a 6:30 p.m., first pitch.
