Southern Miss Head Coach Scott BerryOpening Statement...
"That was a tough one to lose. I think both teams had opportunities early on to win it. There were some great defensive plays. Our guys battled very, very hard. I can't say enough about Colin Cargill's performance out there. We missed out on some opportunities offensively. I cost us there on the ball by Kameron Brunty. I tried to push that one through. All in all, I'm very proud of our team and the way we came out and competed tonight. It was a tough loss, but Houston is playing well."
On the pitching situation for Friday against East Carolina...
"I don't know. We'll get together and figure that out tomorrow. We'll regroup and get some rest. We'll come out ready for tomorrow."
On the lack of carry on fly balls in the game...
"I thought there were a couple of balls that really had a chance of getting out of the yard, but neither one of them did. They played us deep and were able to haul a couple of those in on B.A. (Vollmuth). It was just one of those nights."
Houston Head Coach Todd Whitting
How do you sum up tonight's game...
"It's probably one of the best college baseball games I've ever been apart of. You had two teams that were completely locked in. USM played extremely hard and wanted to win that game just as bad as we did. I think five of our seven runs came with two outs and there were some huge, huge defensive plays. And Codey Morehouse...I don't think in 15 years I've ever seen an effort like that from somebody out of the bullpen and what he did coming in that game. He was stellar."
On the play at the plate in the bottom of the 12th...
"I wanted that play for this team and for my guys. They've been working their butts off since the fall and I really wanted them to have the opportunity to play on Saturday and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Safe or out, he looked safe to me I don't know, I just wanted it so bad for these guys."
On beating USM in front of what was basically a home game and crowd...
"Tonight felt like an NCAA Tournament game. You hear the crowd and feel the environment. The atmosphere was outstanding here. I told one of our coaches before the game that it's awesome to be playing a game that really means something this time of year with a lot of enthusiasm, at a great ballpark and in front of a great crowd. It was fun."
On who they'll throw on the mound Friday vs. Tulane...
"We'll go with Luke Moran on the mound and our pregame routine will be the same. We'll let them sleep in tomorrow and keep everything how we've done it the first two days. We haven't talked about how big this tournament is and how bad we have to win it, we've simply said since the beginning of the season the most important game is always the next one. It's strictly a pitch-by-pitch thing and I'm really proud of our guys taking on that mentality and what we're trying to build here at Houston."
