Baseball Continues Stay in National Polls

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
With their first share of the Conference USA regular season title since 2003 in hand, the Southern Miss baseball team largely maintained their position in the Top 25 of all five major national collegiate baseball polls.
For the week, the Eagles dropped just their third conference series and first series loss at home to No. 15 Rice, who also won a share of the 2011 title. In the Collegiate Baseball poll, the Golden Eagles maintained their No. 21 position and fell to No. 19 in Baseball America and No. 21 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll. In the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, Southern Miss was ranked No. 20 nationally.
Baseball America ranked the Eagles No. 19 nationally while PerfectGame.org stayed in line with the coaches, giving Southern Miss the No. 20 spot.
This is the ninth consecutive week Southern Miss has been ranked in all five major polls.
The Golden Eagles (38-15, 16-8) are back in action as the No. 2 seed in this week's C-USA Baseball Championship presented by Trustmark. The tournament will utilize two four-team pods. In the Southern Miss pod will be No. 7 Tulane, No. 6 Houston and No. 3 East Carolina. The Golden Eagles will play each of those teams on consecutive days, beginning Wednesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss., beginning with the Tulane Green Wave at 7:30 p.m.
