HATTIESBURG, Miss. -
After going 1-2 over the weekend at Conference USA foe Houston, the Southern Miss baseball team fell in all five major national polls but remained as high as No. 14 as they prepare to host C-USA rival Rice this week.
The Golden Eagles fell to No. 14 in Baseball America, No. 20 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll and No. 17 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll.
Southern Miss fell three spots in the Collegiate Baseball poll to No. 21 and had their sharpest decline in the PerfectGame.org poll, dropping five spots to No. 18.
This is the eighth consecutive week Southern Miss has been ranked in all five major polls and is the fifth time in 2011 that they have been in the Top 20 by at least four of the five polls.
The Golden Eagles (37-13, 15-6 C-USA) return to action on Thursday when the host the Owls (35-17, 14-7 C-USA) in a three-game series that will decide the regular season conference champion. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the game will also be televised on CBS College Sports (Comcast Digital channel 735 in Hattiesburg/393 in HD).
