Lady Eagle Netters Set For Conference USA Tennis Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's tennis team will be in action on Thursday in the first round of the 2011 Conference USA Tennis Championship at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla., Apr. 21-24.
The Lady Eagles are the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed East Carolina at 9 a.m., CDT.
In doubles action the Golden Eagles will be led by Elja van Berlo who teams up with Asa Bengtson handling duties at number two as the tandem went 8-4 on the season. In the one spot Vroni van Berlo and Stephanie Dellocono are 3-5. Rounding out the doubles at number three, Zoe Lee has been partners with Shannon Rogers and Asa Bengtson. Lee and Rogers are 6-3 while the duo of Lee and Bengtson are 4-2.
In singles play the Golden Eagles Vroni van Berlo and Bengtson have played at number one. Bengtson has also seen action in No. 2 singles' spot. Dellocono, who owns an 8-10 record, has played at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Elja van Berlo has the team's best record in singles' as she has a 4-2 record at No. 3 and 6-2 at No. 4. Lee has held down the No. 5 singles' spot while Rogers has been strong at the six position.
Southern Miss finished the year with an overall record of 8-13 and 2-5 in conference play. The Lady Eagles played East Carolina earlier in the season and lost 5-2 in Greenville.
