Women's Golf Heads to Conference USA Championships

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team will travel to Gulfport, Ala. for the 2011 Conference USA Championships, Sunday-Tuesday, April 17-19. The tournament will be played at the Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club on the par-72, 6,351-yard Cypress-Marsh Course.
The Lady Eagles are looking to improve on last year's seventh-place finish. Their best finish came in 1996 and 1998 when they finished in fourth-place.
Southern Miss is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate. Senior Virginia Espejo earned her sixth career top five finish, finishing in third-place.
Freshman Brandi Rodriguez leads Southern Miss with a 75.6 stroke average over 18 rounds. She has earned three top ten and five top 20 finishes.
The Lady Eagles will begin play tomorrow with redshirt junior Lauren Judson teeing off at 9:50 in the No. 5 position. They will tee off in 10 minute intervals, with junior Sandra Sohlberg in the No. 4 spot, sophomore Vicky Correa at No. 3, Espejo at No. 2 and Rodriguez in the first position.
