HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After playing the last eight games on the road, the Southern Miss baseball team returns home this weekend for a non-conference, three-game series against the University of New Orleans. Game times are set for 6 p.m., on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles (24-8) bring in a two-game winning streak against the Privateers, who currently are playing as a Division I Independent. Southern Miss has won six-straight decisions over the Privateers (3-29), but trail in the overall series 48-45.
The weekend series is highlighted by the "Parrothead Night at The Pete" celebration Friday night, honoring Southern Miss alumnus Jimmy Buffett.
Some of the events going on in conjunction with the event include:
*Caribbean-themed Commemorative jerseys to celebrate the event
* One jersey will be raffled away during the game with each chance at $5 (other jerseys will be auctioned online)
* Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Lloyd "Hurricane" Munn and the Forecasters, will perform in the Right Field Roost following the game
* The best Jimmy Buffett-styled Roost spot will win a Raising Cane's Tailgating Package
* The concession stands will be decorated and feature grilled shrimp skewers with tropical slaw, margarita and pina colada non-alcoholic flavored snow cones, and Heinz 57 concessions
* Jimmy Buffet music will also be played all throughout the evening's game
Following this weekend's series, the Golden Eagles travel to Metairie, Wednesday night, to face LSU at Zephyr Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The Southern Miss Athletic Ticket Office still has some tickets available for that game.
