HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss baseball team returns to Pearl Tuesday night at Trustmark Park when they take on Ole Miss in a 6:30 p.m. contest.
The Golden Eagles, despite losing there last week to Mississippi State 5-4, has amassed a 7-3 record at Trustmark Park since its first game there on April 4, 2006, when they beat the Rebels 13-6.
Southern Miss will try to sweep the season series against Ole Miss, after defeating them March 30 in Hattiesburg 4-3 in 10 innings, in front of a Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field record crowd of 5,689.
The Golden Eagles remained in all five polls this week, including a No. 25 ranking in Collegiate Baseball, No. 20 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches, No. 22 in both Baseball America and PerfectGame.com and No. 29 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls.
Ole Miss comes into the game with a 20-13 mark after losing two of three at home against Georgia over the weekend.
Right-handed pitcher Boomer Scarborough (1-0, 1.82 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the Golden Eagles against southpaw Matt Tracy (3-2, 4.86 ERA). The two also hooked up in Hattiesburg when the two teams met two weeks ago.
The game will air on the Southern Miss Sports Network from IMG College with flagship station 96.5 (WXHB-FM) and will also be simulcast on sister station 104.5 (WXRR-FM) I Hattiesburg-Laurel. The game can also be heard on 96.7 (WFFF-FM) in Columbia, 620 (WJDX-AM) in Jackson and 96.7 (WUJM-FM) in Biloxi-Gulfport. All-Access through SouthernMiss.com also will provide the audio.
Following the Ole Miss game, the Golden Eagles return home for a three-game series this weekend against New Orleans. Friday night's game will be Parrothead Night at The Pete, honoring USM alumnus Jimmy Buffett. The Golden Eagles will wear commemorative jerseys that night as well as some other special things going along with the contest. Game times are 6 p.m., on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.
