Southern Miss Earns Second Place at Lady Eagle Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team took home a second-place finish at the 17th annual Lady Eagle Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,143-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.
It is their second runner-up finish of the spring, as they also finished in second-place at the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational.
The Lady Eagles shot a final round 310 to finish 32-over par, three shots back of Memphis (+29). Troy took third-place at 39-over par.
Southern Miss had three golfers in the top ten. Freshman Kelsey Gibson shot a final round 76 to finish five-over par in fourth place. It is her first career top five finish. Sophomore Vicky Correa, playing as an individual, shot a 77 to tie for sixth-place at seven over par. It is her third top ten finish of the season.
Freshman Brandi Rodriguez tied for eighth-place after carding a final round 79 to finish eight-over par. It is also her third top ten finish of the year.
Senior Virginia Espejo tied for 12th-place after posting a 78 to finish nine-over par. It is her third top 20 finish this year and 13th of her career. Junior Sandra Sohlberg shot a second straight 77 to place 10-over in 14th-place, earning her second top 20 finish of the season and third of her career.
Redshirt freshman Lauren Judson and junior Meredith Haro both earned their best finishes of their careers. Judson finished 17-over par to tie for 24th-place, and Haro, playing as an individual, shot a career-low 77 to finish in 29th-place.
Memphis took home the top three spots in the individual competition. Marissa Steen won medalist honors as she was the only golfer to shoot even-par for the tournament. Ashley Kees, playing as an individual, came in second-place at three-over par, and Kathleen Glavin place third at four-over.
Southern Miss returns to the links next Friday-Sunday, April 1-3, at the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss.
