HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's golf team will stay home this week when it hosts the 17th annual Lady Eagle Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, Mar. 21-22. The tournament will be played at the par -72, 6,143 Hattiesburg Country Club.
The Lady Eagles are the two-time defending tournament champions, and have won a team-high four times. Last year, Southern Miss did not host the event due to hosting the Conference USA Championships.
The tournament is headlined by Memphis, who enters the tournament ranked 83rd in the latest Golfweek rankings.
Southern Miss is joined by Belmont, Jackson State, South Alabama, Stephen F. Austin, Troy and West Florida to round out the field.
Southern Miss is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Invitational. Freshman Brandi Rodriguez earned her first career top five finish, tying for fourth-place to earn Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week honors.
Rodriguez leads Southern Miss with a 75.5 stroke average over 13 rounds. She has earned two top ten and four top 20 finishes.
Hattiesburg Country Club becomes the sixth course to host the event, after Canebrake Country Club hosted it the previous five years. B.O. Van Hook Golf Course (1994), Laurel Country Club (1995-98), Timberton Golf Club (1999-2002) and Shadow Ridge Golf Club (2003-04) have also hosted the event.
The tournament begins Monday with teams teeing off at 10 a.m. from the first and tenth tees. The teams will play 18 holes on Monday, followed by the final 18 on Tuesday.
