HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior guard Darnell Dodson garnered selection as the Conference USA men's basketball Co-Player of the Week based on voting from a media panel covering the 12 league schools and released Monday afternoon.
Dodson, a Greenbelt, Md. native, averaged 14.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals during the week in helping lead the Golden Eagles to two victories over Arizona State and USF.
Dodson began the week with playing in his first game of the year. With the game tied at 61, Dodson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Southern Miss the victory. He finished with 17 points, all in the second half, in just 15 minutes. Dodson connected on 4-of-5 shots, including his last seven free throws.
He then capped off his week by recording his first career double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down a career-high 12 rebounds in helping the Golden Eagles to their 20th straight non-conference victory.
On the week, Dodson connected on 56.3% from the field, 66.7% from behind the arc and 77.8% from the charity stripe. This is the first career Player of the Week honor for Dodson.
UTEP's Michael Perez shared the award with Dodson, and the Miners' Cedric Lang was named the C-USA Freshman of the Week.
