Plucienski Shares Medalist Honors at UTA/Waterchase Intercollegiate

Fort Worth, Texas. - Redshirt junior golfer Derek Plucienski became the first Southern Miss golfer to win a tournament in four years, tying for medalist honors at the UTA/Waterchase Intercollegiate, hosted by Texas-Arlington and played at the par 72, 7,304 yard Waterchase Country Club.
He becomes the first Golden Eagle men's golfer to win a tournament since Joel Myrick won the 2006 Adam's Cup of Newport.
Plucienski closed the tournament with a 76. His 54-hole total of 209 is the seventh-lowest in school history. He has now started the 2010 fall season with back-to-back top two finishes, as he also finished in second-place at last week's Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Golden Eagles shot a 299 to take home second-place, their best finish of the season.
Redshirt junior Nick Brown earned his best finish of his career, closing with a 75 to finish with a three-round total of 215 and a tie for ninth-place. It betters his previous best finish that he set last week, a tie for 31st-place at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Senior Brent Hobbs tied for 18th-place at two-over par after shooting a 73. It is his second straight top 20 finish. Junior John Kahlden shot a 75 to finish 12-over par in a tie for 67th-place, and senior Freddie Janneck tied for 74th-place at 13-over par.
North Texas won the tournament at 20-under par with a 54-hole score of 844. Southern Miss finished one-over par at 865 in second-place, and Louisiana Tech took third at three-over.
Plucienski shared medalist honors with North Texas' Curtis Donahoe at seven-under par. Armando Villarreal of Texas Wesleyan finished in third-place at six-under.
The Golden Eagles will take two weeks off before traveling to Ruston, La. for the Squire Creek Invitational, Oct. 4-5.
