HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Freshman Dillon Day had one of the best weeks in his young Southern Miss career and the Conference USA office recognized that today as he was named the C-USA Hitter of the Week.
Day has been the sparkplug to the Golden Eagles' recent success, including a three game sweep at Tulane this past weekend. Over the week he hit .571 (8-14) with seven RBI and five runs scored. He drew two walks and was hit by a pitch as well for a .632 on base percentage.
In Friday's lopsided win, he recorded three hits, knocking in a run and scoring two, but it was in Saturday's victory over the Green Wave he was clutch, knocking in two runs with a two-RBI triple and scoring a run in the 4-2 win. He had his second three hit game of the weekend in the series finale, with three singles, two of which were two-out RBI singles.
Over the week he was 4-for-7 with runners in scoring position and 4-for-8 hitting with two outs without striking out in 18 plate appearances. He has currently hit in six straight games, which is a career long streak for the freshman.
Since taking over the starting role in centerfield during the UCF series he is hitting .478 with 5 2B, a 3B, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored.
East Carolina's junior RHP Seth Maness earned Pitcher of the Week recognition after a complete-game performance in a win over Marshall on Saturday
