Baseball Adds Three Players for 2011

HATTIESBURG, Miss - The Southern Miss baseball team added three high school players who will join the team beginning next fall and participate in the 2011 season, head coach Scott Berry announced today.
Taylor Eads, Austin Roussel, and Michael Sterling have all been admitted to the University and have received a spot on next season's roster.
"These are three players that we can get in our program and start the developmental process as a true freshman," head coach Scott Berry said. "These are three good young kids that we are excited about joining our program."
Eads, who is listed at 6'0"-215, is currently a senior at Northshore High School in Slidell, La. where he was a preseason high school All-American by Collegiate baseball and a first team all-state selection in 2009 as an outfielder. A career .420 hitter who is hitting .471 this year as a senior and hit .490 as a junior, he was also selected to the all-St. Tammany Parrish, all-metro New Orleans and all-district in 2009 as a junior.
Roussel, a 6'1, 185 pound left-hand hitting catcher out of Lutcher HS in Louisiana, is a two-time all-state selection as a sophomore and a junior behind the plate. In his senior campaign he is currently hitting .405 with six home runs and 26 RBI and has been selected to participate in the Louisiana East/West All-Star Game. He has been a four year starter at LHS, as a freshman he was all-district and all-river parish while in his sophomore season he was the district MVP along with an all-district, all-River parrish and all-metro selection. Rousell has also been a four year starter in football, where is also an all-state selection and helped lead his team to a 2006 and 2008 state championship.
Sterling, a 6'0", 170 pound infielder out of Meridian high school, was a Mississippi all-district selection as a junior and the MHS defensive player of the year. A versatile infielder, who could play 2B, SS or 3B in college has mostly played SS in high school. In his senior campaign he is currently hitting .419 with 17 RBI in only 20 games while he is a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen bases. In his high school career he is 27-for-27 in stolen bases. A member of the National Honor Society he was selected as one of the top 10 students in the 2010 graduating class at MHS.
