Women's Tennis Lands Two Early

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss women's tennis coach Raynie Theis announced the signing of Kate Lanier of Clarksville, Ga., and Mackenzie Oskin of Duluth, Ga., to national letters of intent for the 2011-12 academic year.
Lanier plays at Habersham Central High School. As a freshman, she had a 19-0 record playing No. 1 singles and helped her team advance to the state playoffs for the first time in the school's history. She finished 15-0 during her sophomore campaign playing No. 1 and also helped her team make its second consecutive trip to the state playoffs.
Lanier currently owns a national ranking of 200 within the 2011 class, including a ranking of 63 in the Southeast and No. 12 in the state of Georgia.
Oskin attends the Tennis Academy of the South where she plays for coach Ann Marie Willis. She was ranked No. 1 in doubles as a freshman while finishing as the runner-up in regional and state competition. Oskin earned three consecutive team Most Outstanding Player awards. As a sophomore, Oskin played on the No. 1 doubles' team while capturing a regional champion. She was played No. 1 singles as a junior.
Oskin is ranked No. 394 in her class nationally, No. 122 in the Southeast and No. 28 in the state of Georgia.
