Lady Eagles Take Eighth-Place at Cardinal Cup

Simpsonville, Ky. - The Southern Miss women's golf squad earned an eighth-place finish at the Napa Grill Cardinal Cup, played at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Lady Eagles finished 62-over par, 11 shots behind seventh-place Akron.
Senior Amy Roberts tied for 18th-place at 10-over par. It is her second straight Top 20 finish. Junior Virginia Espejo took 31st-place at 15-over par. Freshman Sara Vanzonhoven earned 44th-place at 19-over. Freshman Vicky Correa finished 21-over in a tie for 47th-place, and senior Samantha Holt (+22) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Eagles with a tie for 51st.
Host Louisville won the tournament in resounding fashion finishing two-over par, 32-shots ahead of second-place Kentucky. Maryland earned third-place at 35-over, while Missouri finished in fourth-place at 36-over. In fifth-place was Illinois State at 40-over and BYU finished 42-over in sixth.
Akron earned seventh-place at 51-over par, followed by Southern Miss, (+62), Morehead State (+72), USF (+73), Eastern Kentucky (+77) and Cincinnati (+80).
Southern Miss returns to the course next week when they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Cincinnati Fall Invitational, Sept. 28-29.
